Thanks for the links! I was going to say “I’ve never heard ‘The Oogum Boogum Song’” but I would have been wrong. I was 16 when it came out, so I was there, but I honestly don’t think I ever heard that title before. I wasn’t a huge fan of soul music at the time (that’s putting it mildly, too).
Yes, it came out before I was born, but, I knew the song before I knew the title.
Also, as someone who wasn't alive in 1967, it mentions a lot of the female fashion from this time:
When you wear your high-heeled boots/With your hip-hugger suit
A lot of songs like one by Booker T & the MGs mention hip-hugger outfits, but I don't know what it refers to.
And you wear that cute miniskirt/With your brother's sloppy shirt
Was that a thing? pairing a miniskirt with a man's shirt? (That was 'sloppy'?)
When you wear your bell bottom pants
Of curse, I knew about bell bottom pants in the 60's and 70's which were inspired by naval trousers.
When you wear those big earrings/Long hair, and things
Any female freepers that can comment, if these sounded like common fashions in those days?
