This is purely anecdotal, so bear with me, please.
I have never been to Normandy, but I was told by someone who has that the locals, even the young people, were totally friendly and gracious to Americans.
It was some time ago, an isolated incident - I don't remember much about it. I know the older French in that area are careful about such things. The signs did indicate some drift in attitudes in the area.
It is true that the 'Yanks' were considered a bit overbearing. Probably cultural differences during a time of war... Glad to hear that the 'Yanks' are well tolerated. The delinquency of Euro NATO members in paying their agreed on share of defense expenses reminds me of the huge sums of money America spent with the Marshall Plan to rebuild a war torn European landscape - never to be paid back - except for Finland.
