Trying to keep pace with your countdown, my #17 song is one of the first songs I remember as a child. The Fifth Dimension doing "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In"
One of my most vivid music memories of a child was when I started summer vacation in the summer of 1971. I was leaving third grade that year and in those days, the last day of school in June was so magical. You cleaned out your desk, turned in your textbooks, and went home with endless summer still ahead of you. September, and fourth grade, seemed years away.
That night, I was allowed to sleep on the couch on the first floor, with the windows thrown wide open. My mother had a routine where she came downstairs to start breakfast and turned on the radio to a Top 40 station.
I remember waking up to that music with a light summer breeze blowing the curtains over my head as I slumbered on the couch. The following three songs played and I still remember them vividly to this day:
Partridge Family - "I Woke Up In Love This Morning"
George Harrison - "My Sweet Lord"
Fifth Dimension - "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In"
That was a perfect summer morning, with endless summer still stretching out before me!
Fifth Dimension - Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In (1969)
