Ah...I suspect you may be mistaking Michael Reagan with Ron Reagan, the ballet dancer and poofter who made a career on Leftist shows talking about how his father would have viewed this or that.
Michael Reagan was, I believe, a very solid conservative who idolized his father.
Historical dramas do sometimes tend to be rather syrupy.
