You have to brush up on your Britishisms. It mentions her “partner” was back at the hotel looking after the kid. “Partner” in the British Language has a lot of meanings: husband, wife, co-habitor, shack-upper, two gays, two lesbos...it means somebody or maybe something is else back at the ranch.

The use of “partner” has been steadily growing in England the past decades. They were woke before woke was cool.
