Isreal is surrounded by nations which have economically and militarily grown over the last years and frankly not even our comitment to Israel is as solid as it was years past. These neighbors are economically more important to us and have influence on our policy makers. See the US luke-warm support of Israel today, even straddling the issue and taking the Palestinian side at times.
The real saving grace for Israel is that its neighbors are on much friendlier terms today, may that be Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan. These nations actually work together on many security issues, even if there are a lot of people inside these nations which see Israel as the bad guy...
