If I recall correctly, President Ford was selected as VP without an election and then when Nixon resigned, he became President. However, he was approved by Congress, so he was at least approved by officials who were elected by the people. Very much in keeping with the idea of an elected republic.

They, or rather the people controlling them, chose her. The voting democrat population had ZERO say in the matter.
