My 1964 Renault Dauphine taught me just about everything that could go wrong with a new car. Even a small hole blown out of the side of a spark plug. Mechanic said “I never saw that one before.” If you didn’t get the steering mechanism greased every three or four months it seized up and sounded like a rusty freight car going to a siding with the train braking loudly, and you had to use all your arm strength to make it move left to right. And in 1964 “We don’t work on foreign cars. We don’t carry parts for foreign cars.” A while later everyone owned foreign cars.
Owned a Renault 16 for 10 minutes. Kept blowing head gaskets. A feature not a bug.
