Axelrod calls talk of replacing Biden ‘irrelevant today’ (too late)

Democratic strategist David Axelrod on Saturday called discussions about replacing President Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket “irrelevant,” as the party continues to face the fallout from the Thursday night debate.

The former Obama White House senior adviser said the appropriate time to have the discussion would have been last year.

“Reality check: @JoeBiden is the nominee of the Democratic Party, nominated by voters in primaries across the country,” Axelrod wrote on the social platform X. “Unless the @POTUS, himself, decides to quit — which he won’t — that issue is settled.”

“The discussion that is going on now was timely a year ago, when few wanted to have it. It’s largely irrelevant today,” he continued.

Biden’s shaky debate performance on Thursday has spurred conversations among Democrats about whether he should remain atop the ticket. Biden and key allies have launched a fierce campaign to defend Biden and assure the public that he is the right person for the job.

In a panel discussion immediately following the debate, Axelrod cast doubt on former President Trump’s ability to inspire the Republican base, and suggested a non-Biden Democrat would likely beat Trump.

“If, for whatever reason, there’s a change at the top of the ticket, you guys are in trouble with Donald Trump. Because the guy who was up there tonight is not a guy who’s going to inspire people,” Axelrod said of Trump on CNN. “He did not show in any way that he has changed from the guy who people have a very positive opinion of, for a lot of good reason.”

Axelrod said Thursday “there was a sense of shock” about Biden’s performance at the beginning of the debate, pointing to his raspy voice and “disoriented” disposition. He added that Biden “did get stronger as the debate...

As if Democrat leadership cares about the voters.

The last chance for timely action is now.

I think that you are, as usual, correct but the power of the Democrat elites to alter the ticket, I believe, rests in the states with 50 different rules for this near unique circumstance.

I have heard that it is too late, or nearly too late for other reasons to change candidates in Nevada and Wisconsin. Do you know the truth of this or the state of play in other states?

Biden IS an actor and con artist. And he’s also a megalomaniac..... completely absorbed with himself.

Which is why he showed up at the debate completely impaired. He actually thinks he can do no wrong.

Reference: Megalomaniacs are pathological egotists with delusions of grandeur and an obsession with power, convinced of their absolute power and greatness. Self-centered and overconfident they want to control the world.

Yet, Biden seriously misjudged the effects of his debate con. The televised images viewed by 50 million that showed a diminished Biden, open mouthed, blankly staring, freezing-up, talking nonsense, will live beyond his presidency.

Sounds like Axelrod had a heart-to-heart talk with power-crazed drjill.

It’s too late. The train has left the station. You’re traveling through another dimension — a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That’s a signpost up ahead: your next stop: the Twilight Zone!

Frankly, job one for Trump that night wasn't that. It was to LET that Biden dementia train-wreck happen all by itself. Just stand there and watch it like the rest of the world. AFAIC, Trump had nothing to prove - he's already got my vote and benefits from real Americans' ire at all the persecution lawfare Democrats have been imposing on him.

25th Amendment makes Kamala the president, but there’s still the issue of securing the delegates that are pledged to Biden. If Biden withdraws as the nominee, those delegates are free to vote for whomever they want and Kamala won’t be the only one in the running.

They’re pretty much stuck. Should have settled this a year ago because there would have been many more options available.

Axelrod had a secret meeting in Jackson, WY in 2015 w Paul Ryan, Romney, McConnell, Crazy Liz and a few others to discuss who to run in the GOP in 2016.
We don’t know the answer but soon after the meeting began the GOP attacks against Trump.
Most likely it was setup to give prime jobs to the GOP leadership as a payoff to NOT support Trump.

I remember this as I was wondering what the heck Axelrod was doing there.
He is still working for the Clintons but realizes there is zero chance Hillary is going to get in.

Axelrod is not as dangerous as he was 15 years ago but still someone to watch carefully.

Thanks for that good explanation.

Governor Whitmer of Michigan came out and said Michigan is lost to Trump. Lol

I can't decipher what he said here. First, Trump can't "inspire people", but then he's a "guy who people have a very positive opinion of". Unless the sentence is mixing subjects (first Trump, then Brandon), it makes no sense - and if the subject is mixed, it's a bald faced lie.

Thanks for the kind words! It appears to depend on states; that is, such deadlines can be altered on a state by state basis...if there's time. Which at the moment there is, but we have to remember that those deadlines aren't arbitrary, they're there because of the physical overhead of printing and distributing ballots, which is now more of a factor than it used to be due to the Dem's new passion for mail-in voting. Those have to be received, made out, and returned with a postmark that really is set in stone. And Washington state, for example, depends entirely on mail-in voting.

There's nothing to prevent the DNC from deeming Biden the official candidate now that he has enough delegates pledged to justify the claim (he has since March). But once done, it can't be changed because there's no time left for that. To me it looks at the moment like the Dems have, through the inertia inherent in the system and their own indecision, painted themselves into the Biden corner. Which holds not one, but two mental deficients, because the same time constraints apply to his running mate.

There is a path open to dump both in the allotted time, (i.e. Biden leaves and the convention produces two fresh candidates) but Biden has to die, become completely disabled, or agree to resign for that to happen and it doesn't look at the moment like the clock won't run out on that one too. The default plan is, therefore, "Go With Joe" and sort it all out after he is in and Trump is safely incarcerated. However wildly unlikely that outcome is, it's the slope they're sliding down. All IMHO, of course, and it could change in the next five minutes. Ain't politics grand?

I used to think the same as you until I realized that Obama and his minions have now been in charge of the DC swamp for 16 years straight. That’s a lot of time to do a lot of damage. Wasn’t he lucky that Trump won in 16 instead of Hillary?

Obama would rather see a handcuffed, on the run, disconnected, abandoned by his party…Trump in the WH than Obama’s old nemesis Hillary.

If you understand that the entire Covid treason was cooked up well in advance to enact a bio-security state and transfer trillions of dollars out of the middle class, you would see that they would need to have a scape goat in charge when they executed it.

My big fear is….What are they planning to unleash on us in the next Trump Presidency? My guess is financial collapse and move to CBDC.

If they try to do it with a Dem President, Patriots would freak. If they convince Trump he has to do it, many Republicans will be on board. I hope Trump doesn’t fall in line as he did during Covid.
