What should they have learned?
The lesson that most Westerners are taught is that WW2 was a war against racism and hate.
Germans especially had that lesson hammered into them during the Allies' "deNazification" process.
Germany learned that lesson well. Don't hate. Don't be racist. Putting your own people and country first is racist hate. Welcome nonwhite, non-Christian immigrants.

The Germans just go from one extreme to another.
In the 20th century they went from extreme Imperialism, to extreme decadence to extreme Fascism, to extreme f@ggotry.
In the early 19th century they were often seen as romantic, artistic, dreamy and rather effete.
It was only later that the duelling scars and extreme militarism came in.

In our wealthy, once red suburbs ethnic minorities were not permitted in the prestigious country clubs, prep schools etc...society-all of the upbringing that comes with first experiencing the once wealthy red suburbs back in the day has led the grandchildren to becoming raving liberals.
