"It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world; so far, I mean, as we are now at liberty to do it; for let me not be understood as capable of patronizing infidelity to existing engagements. I hold the maxim no less applicable to public than to private affairs, that honesty is always the best policy. I repeat it, therefore, let those engagements be observed in their genuine sense. But, in my opinion, it is unnecessary and would be unwise to extend them."
And who said this:
"Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations—entangling alliances with none."
No, but every Russian who takes your phony "classical position" certainly is.
Who said making the "world a better place"? Its protecting our global interests like in a free Taiwan.
Nothing phony about it when it’s right there in the text
What would the founders make of today. They’d be appalled
In your isolationism, why even confront Japan? Isn't that being a neocon?
“”””Reagan was right, but notice he wasn’t saying anything about expanding NATO right up to Russia’s borders””””
Russia’s empire look permanent at that time in history but if you had asked him in private if he would have accepted Poland and other freed countries into NATO if they ever escaped, he would have said yes, that discussion wasn’t taking place in public anywhere.
Jackass comment.
Tell us then
I’m curious
I won’t argue
You don't have to type out "jackass comment" when you post. It is assumed that whatever you have to say is self evidently so.
You’re living in the past. Better reboot.
As accurate and complete a summary of our political philosophy as can be found anywhere:

You won't read it, of course, because it will explode all your prejudices.
Germany declared War on US. Hitler thought he could take on the US, and instead, WE ENDED HIM.
And now we can’t even protect or secure our own borders. We allegedly won those world wars and now find ourselves in debt for the next 10 generations with total chaos at home.
Cute. You can go j7mp in a lake for saying that Europe would have been better off under Hitler. Then kma,my Grat- Grandfather almost died fighting Nazis to free Iews in Europe. You spit on his memory.
Bombed Pearl Harbor
FDR froze Japanese assets and established an embargo on oil and gasoline exports to Japan which led to the Japanese attack. Not isolationism.
In your isolationist utopia in WW2, we would have never stopped selling the Japanese oil and would not have fought them.
Would the world have been a better place? No
Responding to Japanese occupation of key airfields in Indochina (July 24) after an agreement between Japan and Vichy France, the U.S. froze Japanese assets on July 26, 1941, and on August 1, it established an embargo on oil and gasoline exports to Japan.
“”””Neocon. There’s a word that has been gerrymandered into a meaningless pejorative. Just like “far right-wing,” “assault weapon,” and “non-sustainable.”””””
To me it has always described liberal republicans who wanted Israel protected and an aggressive foreign policy but despised the conservatives and conservatism and were always telling them that their Christianity and social conservatism was holding back the party and losing elections.
The mistakes were made at the end of the Cold War. We could have aligned with Russia, left Europe, and foccused on the real threat, China.
The neocon position re: Europe is that of Reagan, not of Washington 200 years earlier. Do you ever read ANYTHING that doesn't confirm your preconceived notions?
Not. At. All.
A legacy of the Progressive Woodrow Wilson but at least there was a real Soviet Union in Reagan’s day on the other side.
