"It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world; so far, I mean, as we are now at liberty to do it; for let me not be understood as capable of patronizing infidelity to existing engagements. I hold the maxim no less applicable to public than to private affairs, that honesty is always the best policy. I repeat it, therefore, let those engagements be observed in their genuine sense. But, in my opinion, it is unnecessary and would be unwise to extend them."
And who said this:
"Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations—entangling alliances with none."

Things have also changed since Reagan’s time.
To: tlozo
I agree it was a different time however...
Stayed out of WW2? An overwhelming majority of Americans said in the polls at the time they didnt want to join.

You have no idea what neocons stood for. You stand for nothing, your parasites.

Things have also changed since Reagan’s time. Sure, Russians aren't imperialists?

Iraq and Afghanistan (20 years of nation building) cost a fortune and utter disaster for the U.S. Treasury and so forth

The point is Americans always been skeptical of foreign involvement even in 1941 (the war started in ‘39).

Yep...Some of these people are living in WWII era...That era of the U.S. being the global cop is long over. Being 34 trillion zillion in debt is the result of U.S. pretending to be the world’s policeman and global baby sitter.

This was always the classic position
Even in 1941. Even with the Nazis at their height in Europe.

Had the U.S. stayed out of WWI, Hitler would have been a failed painter, WWII would have never happened, and the filthy commies would have been crushed in the cradle.
And given Europe's headlong rush to import Jew hating muzzies and embrace fascism presently, it might have been better off under Hitler.
It's probable that he would have been toppled by the 50's.

Neocon.
There’s a word that has been gerrymandered into a meaningless pejorative. Just like “far right-wing,” “assault weapon,” and “non-sustainable.”
To: Paal Gulli
Well, you’re right in that there’s nothing “Neo-” about it at all.

Everyone knows what it means.
Less being policeman of the world...
What rankles me is the special interests (if you prefer that term) CONTROL the media and they call those with the classical position unpatriotic even when they quote Jefferson!
Unbelievable it is.
Look at how Ron/Rand Paul are treated for a good example.

Making the world “a better place” doesn’t appear in any version of the Constitution I’ve ever seen.

And if the US stayed out of WW2? We would have defeated the Japs a year earlier, and Europe would have been united under a government that looks amazingly like present day EU/WEF, only that that fascist government would have been overthrown by the 50's instead of just coming into power now. The 4th Reich is alive and well, and biden is all in.
