“After waiting for my bill, the waitress pointed to a QR code on the table and told me to do it myself. I had to scan the code, manually enter my card info and not get a printed receipt.”
I wouldn’t have done it... I would have forced them to take cash if they wanted to get paid.
The new scam that is starting to trend is QR codes on the product shelves instead of prices. So without a phone and app you cannot tell what the price is of the product you might or might not buy depending on price.
I don’t buy it and tell them why as I walk out. I’m not even sure this is legal in most states, prices have to be accurate, obvious to prevent “bait and switch”., and legible. Needing a phone and app to read the price is NOT obvious and legible. It is a devious scam practice to hide the price from most until they get to the register and it is scanned. And once scanned you have agreed to paying for it.
I wouldn’t know how to scan a qr code if my life depended on it.
And when we eat at Chili’s I refuse to use that infernal gizmo on the table to pay. Cash only. What are they going to do — ask you to barf up your lunch?
