Am I the only one that has never seen the term ‘straphanger’?

Why didn’t they just use the term ‘man’ or ‘person’?

“Straphanger” is a perfectly promulent term.

I’ve seen the term thousands of times, but then I used to live in New York.

It places the victim right on the subway, which used to have actual leather straps for passengers to hang on to, so it works for me.
