The contest is one of many that the company sponsors. They are marketing to a specific demographic - as many companies do. It is not indicative of a war on white people.

Maybe your response isn't clear, but it looks like they sponsor all sorts of baking competitions, all/many of which segregate based on color. Seems to me that the entire program is anti-white, not just one of the many competititions?

Or am I wrong and they also host just as many whites-only competitions also? Or to be fair, shouldn't 60% of the competitions be white-only? (Unless, of course, they include 'Hispanics' as white, in which case I mean to say 80%.)

I read it as: they sponsor over 150 baking competitions all over the country, which means that at least 150 are open to everyone. That’s how I read it.

I saw no indication on their website that they restrict any baking contest other than the one in question.

Having said that, they are an employee-owned company and certainly have embraced DEI. That is their perogative as employee-owners.

As an observant consumer I think that all of their contests should be open to everyone. But if they choose, in one contest, to market to “people of color” - I don’t see this as being against white people. They want to encourage people of color in the baking world, apparently because they feel that this group is underrepresented.

It sounds like they are doing two things: making a social statement AND marketing to an underrepresented group.
