I believe The Raiders played Vox Super Beatle amps, as did Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers early on. Petty still had some of the amps onstage for much of his career, although the band actually played through other amps. Amp expert Richie Fliegler said the Super Beatles sounded like a blizzard of nails. The amps looked cool and The Raiders were featured in some print ads for the amps.

If your referring to electric guitar amps, the amp is an integral part of the instrument itself; it’s the reason now they don’t put a microphone in front of the amp at large venues rather than making a direct non-acoustic connection. Both Jimmy Hendrix and Patrick Rondat would be unknowns without well-matched amplifiers.

Speaking of Rondat, here he is playing Vivaldi live at the Gdansk Shipyard in 2003. He was backed by Jean-Michel Jarre plus a full orchestra. The concert itself was to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Solidarity uprising and Lech Walesa gave a short speech in the middle of the show.

The uncut video of the show can still be streamed from YouTube by searching “Jarre Gdansk” or “Jarre Solidarnosc”.

Speaking of which: https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/4201317/posts
