Last time I flew in one was on Texas International Airlines from Texarakana to Dallas and back in 1975, 48 years ago.

Similarly, I was flown in a C-46 from Malmstrom AFB to Elmendorf in the Mid 1950’s.
It was bumpy, cold and uncomfortable.
Return flight in a KC-97 was a lot quicker and better.
I still can’t get used to canvas seats.

For me it was either 1980 or 1981, coming back to Oregon from California on a Forest Service flight. Lots of thunderstorms and a very rough ride that night.

I flew on a TIA Convair 240 back in early 1971 between San Angelo and Dallas when I was in crypto school before I was sent overseas. TIA started out as TTA (Trans Texas Airways, but was affectionately known as Tree Top Airways).

I flew among San Angelo, Roswell, and Dallas often when it was Trans Texas Airways. When I was learning to fly, the โ€œTreeTop Airwaysโ€ sobriquet was explained as, โ€œOn takeoff, clear the fence at the end of the runway, then descend to cruising altitude.โ€

Flew one aboard Braniff International, Minneapolis to Dallas in the spring of 1976.
