NJ would be the target of multiple hydrogen bombs then because we were a center for pharmacutical, manufacturing and military industries.
It is better to be vaporized in the inital blast than to live and try to survive the 2 week fallout period, in a destroyed environment.Then face a Mad Max world.
From what I have read, the videos of a nearly empty stadium when they “honored” the perverts was taken an hour before the game began.
As the game began the stadium started filling up.
So, it seems to me that people didn’t come out early to participate in that garbage but came later to see a ball game.

I think you are right it did matter where you lived and what was going on in that state as to what was practiced in case of a nuke attack.
Back in the 50’s lived in UT, the alarm would go off at school and we were herded into the basement, then later it was hide under the desk.
Moved to Albuquerque in ‘59 and that all went away but many people had bomb shelters in their back yards, go figure.
