Russia’s plans to overthrow the pro-European government in Moldova in the spring of 2023 have failed, but we can expect new attempts by pro-Russian forces.
This was stated by President of Moldova Maia Sandu, reports Censor.NЕТ with reference to RBC-Ukraine.
The Moldovan president noted that Russia had planned a coup for the spring of 2023, but because the current government “had sufficient information,” Russia’s attempts failed.
“We are sure that they will make a new attempt, but I have no specific information about it. New attempts will be made, because the Kremlin’s plans are obvious - to change the government in Chisinau to a pro-Russian one and to use the Republic of Moldova against Ukraine in this war,” Sandu said. Moldovan President Maia Sandu believes that Russia would continue its expansion, including by sending troops into Moldova, if it successfully seized Ukraine.
This was stated by Sandu in an interview with Financial Times, informs Цензор.НЕТ referring to “European Truth”.
“I do not believe that they (Russians - ed.) would have stopped at the border. Today, we are safe only thanks to Ukraine,” the Moldovan President emphasized, adding that in the first weeks of the full-scale invasion, when such a threat still existed, the country focused on accepting refugees.
To the question of whether Sandu planned to leave Moldova in the event of a Russian attack, she said no.
“I would have stayed (in Moldova - ed.), but we expected that we would have to help as many of our people as possible to go to a safe place, which is Romania,” the president added.
Sandu: Moldova will never be on side of murderers
According to Maia Sandu, the Russians are trying to “remake the Soviet Union” with their aggression against Ukraine.
“They want to bring back the old days. And we don’t want that. Moldova was part of the buffer zone for 30 years, and for us it meant poverty, corruption, bad governance, emigration. We want to be part of the democratic world,” she emphasized.
According to the Financial Times journalist, during their conversation, “Sandu rarely drank, but she was eager to toast Ukraine’s victory.” Source: https://censor.net/en/n3416645
