I think the show even pissed off their target audience of black women, who were told their show is about black women in history, and were lazily given a pretend black woman instead.

I don’t know that there even is a “target audience”. Not to many black Americans are going to tune in for any kind of history docudrama, I think, no matter how pandering it is.
