Exactly right! If you are local and rural, they are open and friendly. They don’t hold back. You might fool them, once. They’ll never forget it. They don’t care much for people that think they are smarter than they really are.
This restaurant was near the lake but rarely found by outsiders. Three people came in together. They were talking loud enough for everybody to hear them and bragging on themselves. They wanted breakfast at 11:30. That’s lunch to us. The locals never talk louder than what it takes for the people at their table to hear them and this group could be heard in the next room.
I looked over at the cook. She was scowling at them. When she saw me look, she rolled her eyes. I had to laugh.
When we left, I checked tags. Yep, blue/purple state not from around here.
Blue/purple state tags……Bet they got lost. They’re luck she was willing to feed them. It would have been funny to ask them if they ever saw the movie “Deliverance”?
If you are ever near Monroe (pronounced MON-ro, not mun-RO), visit Mo’s (uber is best way there).
AKA: Meaux’s and “Mo’s on the bayou” (pronounced..oh, never mind.)
Mudbug boils and fried gator-tail appetizers.
Sittin’ on the lanai one evening, we watched a gator crawl up on the deck and take residence for the night.
Very cool and great food.
Apologies for missing any cajun and coonass FReeQs in the TO: list.
