“The “I Want to Live” hotline, which claims to receive thousands of calls a month, is an official project of Ukraine allowing Russian soldiers to pre-arrange to surrender once on Ukrainian territory.
But it has also released instructions on how active duty soldiers can surrender to a drone — a phenomenon that appears to have taken place several times in this conflict.”
Brilliant creativity by the Ukrainians
“The ‘I Want to Live’ hotline”
I believe the Ukrainian motivation for ‘I Want to Live’ hotline began at the beginning of the invasion. Ukrainian soldiers felt badly like they were playing a video game when waves & waves of Russian soldiers were sent as cannon fodder into the ‘meat grinder’.
Especially the conscripts that had been trapped & lied to regarding the invasion. On the first day of the spring 2022 conscription, which runs from April 1 to July 15, a government-issued disclaimer appeared in Russian news articles, offering families information on the nature of service: “Conscription events are not related to the special operation in Ukraine.”
The articles included a message of reassurance from Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu: “I would like to emphasize that conscripts will not be sent to any hot spots” – a euphemism for the war in Ukraine.
The ‘I Want to Live’ hotline saves lives.
