Thanks for the very reasonable post. I know my kids have it on their phones and, from what I saw, it was just a goofy time-waster. And yes, I know that if you wanted to, you could set preferences for a darker side of the app. As with any media, you have to influence your kids to make the right choices; you can't possibly be everywhere looking over their shoulders.

I also never understood the security threat that Tik-Tok supposedly brings. Does the CCP really want to know when my kid puts down her phone for the night or what my wifi password is? All the articles I've read about this threat never detail what the security hack is for my family of for the country.

One other thing. It has a “recommended videos” everytime you open it. A parent can do the tiktok challenge with them whenever they please. It recommends videos based on what your kid watches.

Flip through the first ten recommended videos and see if any trash comes up. That tells you what the algorithm sees your kid watching.
