Missouri Senator Josh Hawley says that the feds should be investigating the Covenant school shooting as a 'hate crime' against Christians.
The Republican reiterated Police Chief John Drake's statements that trans shooter Audrey Hale, 28, 'targeted' the Nashville school. In total, three students and three staffers were killed.
'Targeting victims on the basis of religious affiliation is a hate crime. It should be investigated as such,' Hawley tweeted.
The conservative later added that he would be introducing legislation on the floor of the Senate condemning Monday's attack as a hate crime. 'We must speak out and condemn the hate that leads to violence,' Hawley said.
Hate crime charges would require proving that the gunman was motivated by bias, such as against the victims’ religion or beliefs.
'All federal resources necessary should be brought to bear. And those individuals or groups who have spread a message of hate against the Christian community - which resulted here in horrific violence - should be held to account,' Hawley also tweeted.
Right-wing activist Dinesh D'Souza echoed Hawley's statements, asking: 'Is it fair to call the Nashville Covenant School mass shooting a hate crime perpetrated by a transgender domestic terrorist against Christians? If not, why not?'
While one of Donald Trump's legal team, Jenna Ellis, tweeted: 'Will the Left condemn this as a hate crime against Christians?'
The shooting did lead President Joe Biden to call again on lawmakers for stronger gun safety laws.

Hawley’s insistence on a hate crime investigation will be called “hateful.”

I don’t want to really rub it in but the name as I gave it fits and carries implications.
Honestly I don’t wish to raise the level of anger but I also don’t want the violent evil terrorist forces to win to prevail.
This is mass murder-terrorism demanding a Constitutional Response a full-throated affirmation of the Second Amendment to use firearms to defend ourselves and others and the First Amendment to freely speak about Faith and the notion of “Male” and “Female”.
Civilization is under assault.
