An Inhumane Proposed Massachusetts Bill Would Allow Prisoners To Trade Organs For Reduced Sentences

Just when you thought American prison systems couldn’t be any more inhumane, a ridiculous new bill has been proposed in Massachusetts that would permit prisoners to donate their organs in exchange for reduced sentences. Perhaps most shockingly, Democrats are sponsoring the legislation.

The “act to establish the Massachusetts incarcerated individual bone marrow and organ donation program” is sponsored by Democratic Reps. Carlos Gonzalez of Springfield and Judith Garcia of Chelsea. The bill would give inmates anywhere from 60 days to a year off of their prison sentence as long as “the incarcerated individual has donated bone marrow or organ(s).”

The politicians pushing for the legislation say it would “restore bodily autonomy to incarcerated folks” and increase the diversity of donors. This bill, González told WGBH, would have a committee in place that would oversee the organ donation program.

“[It] basically establishes a committee with advocates, with advocates of our inmate population to establish the parameters, the guidelines, the clarity, the transparency, on a policy that is lacking within the department of corrections today,” said González. However, critics strongly disagree and say it may even be illegal.

According to the Health Resources and Services Administration, there are nearly 4,000 people on the waiting list for organs in Massachusetts. Black and brown people are jailed at higher rates than their white counterparts, so a bill like this would be detrimental to them.

South Carolina tried to do the same thing in 2007, with proposed legislation that would have reduced sentences by up to 180 days if an inmate donated an organ. After outrage ensued, a voluntary organ and tissue donation program was created instead.

These cute little pieces of legislation always read so innocent and benign when proposed implying a charitable act by prisoner could be rewarded by reduced sentence. Is this what demRATs have in mind for their January 6th political prisoners?

Only a sick democrat could come up with something like this. They are against the death penalty but fine with butchering people? Sure it would be “voluntary” but would it really be? I could swear this was a bad plot in a movie where prisons became human “chop-shops” to make millions for the Wardens.

This isn’t rehabilitation, redemption, or keeping dangerous psychopaths out of circulation.

What are we gonna have, the “Shawshank Transplantations”?

I think a registry should be set up to allow people leave organs in their will for profit. A value for hearts, lungs, kidneys corneas etc. could be established so as to allow even poor people to leave an estate to their heirs.

Rules against suicide etc could address potential abuses but it would increase the likelihood of organ availability.

And further, we appear to have at least two dangerous psychopaths on the loose in the Massachusetts legislature.

I received a new liver a year and a half ago, and I sure as HELL wouldn’t have wanted one from a possibly drug-addled or STD-infected convict.
Liberals and their crazy ideas, and unintended consequences…🙄

that democrats are supporting this is NOT shocking in the least.

Democrats have revealed themselves to be evil, blood thirsty ghouls. The more depraved, evil, destructive, and Satanic in nature something is, the m more likely you will find democrats to support it.

They are everything they accuse others of being and nobody has the chutzpah to stand up to them and call them on it.

Like I would trusts organs donated by prisoners to be safe and not damaged by drugs or infected with STDs, since it’s obvious most prisoners are in jail because they are paragons of virtue.

Besides donating a kidney, what else is available?

Bone marrow replaces itself, as far as I know, so I am not sure that qualifies as a sacrificial donation.

Donating a kidney is not risk free, either.

Close to one percent of kidney donors will require their own transplant because their remaining kidney begins to fail.
