Sean Spicer confuses Pearl Harbor anniversary with D-day
Guardian ^ | 12/7/22 | Martin Pengelly

Sean Spicer, Donald Trump’s first White House press secretary and a Harvard politics fellow, came under fire on Wednesday for a tweet in which he appeared to confuse one major second world war anniversary for another.

Spicer wrote: “Today is Dday [sic]. It only lives in infamy if we remember and share the story of sacrifice with the next generation. #DDay.”

A greater day of infamy was 9/11/2001 and we still feel the effects of that calamity.

I guess maybe it was d-day (note the lower case) for the Empire of Japan. The “d” was a designation for the start of any operation. D day, H Hour…

The ignorance of this Ivy League guy bothers me.

But it’s also the insincerity that gets me.

He’s marking a day which he (apparently) knows nothing about. How many casualties? Over 3000? Over 10,000? Any clue? Any family involvement? Did this tragic event lead to the liberation of the Nazi death camps? Or did this tragic event lead ultimately to Hiroshima and Nagasaki? And was that justified?

Does this guy have any legitimate emotional or intellectual position on 12/7? Or any other day?

Or is he simply a political operative throwing some bones to the stupid peasants who should eagerly eat up his political wisdom?

I can’t wait until the Fourth of July, when Spicer will probably tell us how we won our freedom from Germany.
