There is no official information on the release date. And since this is Tesla’s first-ever smartphone, we cannot make any speculations based on past releases. However, as per various news outlets (Mashbable India), the Tesla Pi Phone will likely launch in December 2022. If not in December 2022, we can expect the launch in January 2023. We will update you as more information on the same becomes available.

I might eventually get it, but I never buy the first of anything.
Same applies to car models, etc.

There are a few primary reasons we're questioning whether this phone is due for an actual release:

Most of the rumors come from an early 2021 YouTube video from adrstudiodesign, but they clearly state those are the designer's ideas, not real leaks or details from Tesla. Most of the rumors we've seen appear to be based on that source.

Assuming there’s similar features and performance on each phone, will it come down to choosing between Steve Cook vs Elon Musk?

Tough choice, but I’d rather have Elon and his bunch electronically stalking me, personally.

Wonder if it is based off the Raspberry Pi motherboard technology, which might explain the shortages as of the last few months.

IF Elon’s engineers/tech geekazoids can do this ONE thing Apple’s IT geeks can’t seem to fix, I’m in.

Puh-LEAZE stop with the updates that scramble my contacts, email, and music folders.

AND, how about this, I’m listening to internet radio in my car on bluetooth, a text message or call comes in which I ignore, but I’ve got to pick up the damed phone, futz around with screens to get back to the app I was listening to and reconnect to where I was before the call came in.

HOW HARD IS THAT TO FIX?

ALSO, stop connecting, turning on BLUETOOTH when I have it TURNED OFF, when my car radio BT pings. BT off should be BT off, right? But there it is, every time since iPhone 3, first song on my playlist comes through the radio and I haven’t done a thing and BT IS TURNED OFF on my phone.

Apple geeks say it’s the radio. That started 5 cars and over 12 years ago, 3 different brand of car/radios.

I’d buy one in a heartbeat if that sh!t was fixed

I doubt it. He'll pay off the Raspberry Pi people if need be. I bought a Pine Phone, which is a Linux based phone. Not exactly Raspberry Pi, but similar hardware. Performance is poor. I cannot find a phone vendor who will get it going as a phone. The Pine chat boards are for propeller heads a level or two above me. There is a Pine + with better performance, but also more $$$.

Microsoft and HP both tried SmartPhone/Pad competitors with little success. What Apple and Google did are NOT trivial. Both have now gone to custom processor chips that reduce power usage while increasing performance. I don't see Musk coming up with a true competitor, only another Android knock-off, if anything.

I use Raspberry Pi’s for special projects, 3’s were pretty affordable at one time, 4’s are outrageous if you can find them at all, be darn if I pay over a $100 for them. The last batch of Raspberry Pi’s 3’s I found were duds.
