There has been a lot of alarmism about health risks of PVC Christmas trees. What's the truth on it, anyone know?
“You will have NO Christmas Tree and you will LIKE IT!”
Colloidal Silver. Haven’t seen that mentioned on this forum before. Plenty of info on RIU though.
Festivus! For the rest of us. She’s getting me in the holiday spirit.
Psychiatrist Bob Newhart’s solution to a woman's fears. (6 minute video)
Now, let’s start with the airing of grievances.
“I’ve got a lot of problems with you people and now you’re going to hear about it”.
: )
I find these points persuasive, especially because of the shrieking about real trees as well (just about effervescing with pesticides).
I received my all-time first “festivus” greeting yesterday. I was like what frack is this, “life day”? But the if the festivus messenger had been the girl in that photo I might have managed a festivus carol or two (if such exist).
Thanks for posting that link, very informative.
“Should I rip out the water and sewer pipes in my house? /sarc”
After we do the ones in the house, we need to get the ones in the street. If the water mains aren’t PVC, they are probably asbestos concrete (AC) pipe.
PVC. Poly Vinyl Chloride. Makes a gas that can kill when burnt. But that would be in high concentrations. Also a carcinogen. The gas is. It is the same plastic as your water pipes. You know, the white plastic pipes. Don’t smoke them and you will be just fine.
Ahem: Where’s the bottle?
Couldn’t say, we cut our own on our own property. Before that we cut our own at designated National Forest sites.
I think you can pick up some surplus lead water mains from Flint, MI.
Oh yeah they are! Years ago I took a real tree outside after Christmas and on a whim decided to see if all the talk about how flammable they are wasn't just exaggerated. I flicked my lighter and touched a lower branch. The tree almost instantly exploded into flames from top to bottm. Blew my mind.
“Poly Vinyl Chloride. Makes a gas that can kill when burnt. But that would be in high concentrations.”
Oh my ! Where to begin. PVC when burnt produces HCL which is nasty but won’t kill you and is certainly not carcinogenic. Vinyl Chloride the monomer from which PVC is made is a mild carcinogen if you were to breathe it for a very long time but it is not a combustion product of PVC.
I’ve personally made millions of pounds of PVC film which was turned into Christmas trees and the reason was PVC does not burn easily. Natural trees and other polymers will.
The anti-PVC lobby is very active and has created a lot of unscientific nonsense about its use, instead it is a very widely used construction material for pipe, conduit, wire coatings, roofing, siding and flooring . Billions of pounds have been used with no registered human issues except for maybe 8 PVC resin guys who breathed it in for years back in the 60’s and 70’s.
Plumbing code around here is that PVC should not be used for inflow. Using it for outflow is fine.
She looks very athletic.
