Mitt Romney’s Refusal to Endorse Mike Lee Infuriates Senate Republicans
Breitbart ^ | 29Sep2022 | Sean Moran

Sen. Mitt Romney’s (R-UT) decision not to endorse Sen. Mike Lee’s (R-UT) reelection bid has infuriated Senate Republicans and conservative activists.

Romney, Utah’s junior senator, has declined — and even refused — to endorse Lee’s reelection bid. Lee is the senior senator from Utah.

Senate Republicans are becoming increasingly alarmed by the decision, noting that even though Senate Republicans may have their differences on policy, they typically stand united against Republican opponents.

“I respect [Romney], and I understand that each state has its own dynamics, but I do not understand why he is remaining neutral,” one Republican senator said anonymously. “Whatever our differences, we all try to support each other around election time.”

Romney’s refusal to endorse Lee could boost his lead opponent during the Senate campaign, the Never Trumper and failed 2016 presidential candidate Evan McMullin. Romney’s move has put Senate Republicans on defense in a state that Lee should win handily. “We should not have to be worried about Utah in any way. I don’t know what he thinks he’s doing, but it’s not going over well, particularly with the [senators] who are up for chairmanships,” another Senate Republican said. Romney has claimed he could not endorse anyone in the race because he is friends with Lee and McMullin; however, as Mollie Hemingway of the Federalist, “it’s unclear why he thought his previously unannounced friendship with McMullin would be harmed by him supporting Republican incumbents and nominees, as all other Republicans do.”

Mitt is nigh invulnerable in Utah because he has the rock solid support of the Mormon hierarchy, collectively and individually. In return, he unlocks for them the vast array of federal favors that a US Senator can deliver. The good ordinary Mormon people of Utah and elsewhere are mostly in thrall to the Mormon bishops. By way of exception, when ordinary Mormons do rebel against the direction of the Mormon leadership, as they eventually did with the late Orrin Hatch, they can make life miserable at times even for Mormon politicians. We can hope that Mitt may have such an experience.

Not Romney, though.

McConnell is doing his own part to sabotage getting a Senate majority. He is withholding funds from candidates that could win. Blake Masters, Oz and Walker.

Yeah, it seems that Mitch's TDS is stronger than his desire to be Majority Leader again. My hunch is that he thinks that MAGA is going to fade soon, so he's trying to keep Trump endorsed candidates out of the Senate. But that's a dangerous plan, and the damage that will be done with another two years of a full Democrat Party run government is likely to be irreparable. For that matter, it might not be repairable now, after the last year and a half.

You have a good point, but in LDS circles people like Mitty are often called “Jack” Mormons or Sunday Mormons.

Romney is a Pubbie because he seesx an advantage for himself. To Romney the idea of giving support to someone else is some sort of trick to fool people. Romney is for Romney and no one else. He is the epitome of the self serving backstabber.

Mitt is snubbing the Senator from Andhra Pradesh? Not seeing a problem here. Mumbai Mike needs to be sent home. Perhaps the only constituents Mike cares about, the H1B guest workers, can vote for Mumbai Mike.

Utah Republican leaders, unbundle your undies! Pierre’s non endorsement of Mike Lee is a good thing. Mike Lee who will beat Egg Mc Muffin by 7% at least, will now be under no obligation to endorse Romney! Lee can now endorse a Harriet Haggeman kind of candidate and help send Mittens packing back to Massachussetts! Believe me La Jolla doesn’t want him, and after his and his son’s dead of night passage of 2000 low income condos in Park city, they don’t want him either!

What a petty man. Reminds me of McCain. These were our leaders not so long ago. What are we doing?

Wouldn't an endorsement by Mittens be The Kiss of Death? Why not ask for 0bama's endorsement? LOL!

Can't the 'My Pillow Guy' endorse him? Oh, wait. The Socialists have already erased him.

He was the designator loser. He knew going in he wasn’t going to “win”. Mitt leans left.
