The biblical references are to stars and their groupings that are visible to the naked eye at night. The orion nebula discovery would have been done by early telescopes in 1610. Stuff you cannot detect by eyesight alone. Same could be said about the far side of the moon. It always existed but until we sent probes and spacecraft to orbit around the moon and finally saw the craters and formations that made it up we never knew what was there.
