The death of the Queen is an “unmooring” ... the last parent to die for her children and the only person in the Queen/King’s role during the lives of most of the people in the country. Regardless of what anyone thinks of the Queen (for, against, indifferent), security/stability of a certain kind died with her.

Truly the end of an era. I'm skeptical about Charles but maybe he will surprise. I'm just a mildly interested observer, ultimately it's up to the British and the citizens of The Commonwealth.

I have no faith in Charles at all. In fact I knew Elizabeth would sit on the thrown until she died because she knew Charles was lame.

If I was Elizabeth I would have bypassed Charles and sent the crown either to Anne or William.

Leaving aside her influence on the UK and the Commonwealth, what little she was allowed considering the strict boundaries within which she was allowed to operate, most of the world looked to her her as an an example of graciousness and good manners, whether consciously or subconsciously measuring their own against hers.

Amid the regrettable coarsening of language in current society, the scoffing at etiquette and good manners, most of us instinctively know that graciousness and good manners constitute the oil that lubricates the everyday frictions we unadvoidently daily encounter in our interactions with others.

I doubt Charles will last long. The pictures of his hands and feet going around look like advanced lymphedema, which points to congestive heart failure. I’d give him 3-5 years max.
