On Thursday, August 18, for the first time since July 6, Russia did not declare "territorial achievements in Ukraine. Ukrainian official sources also did not declare new losses of territories.
This is reported by the American Institute for the Study of War (Institute for the Study of War, or ISW). At the same time, it is noted that Russian troops continue to make limited and unsuccessful ground assaults in eastern Ukraine.
Also, the Institute for the Study of War draws attention to Russian reports of explosions throughout the Crimea on the night of August 18, probably caused by Russian air defense, Ukrainian intelligence or a Ukrainian attack.
"Russian sources claimed that Russian air defense shot down a drone near the Kerch Bridge between Crimea and Russia on the night of August 18, as footage on social networks showed active air defense in the area," the report said.
At the same time, it is noted that the ISW cannot independently verify whether the Russian air defense shot down a Ukrainian UAV, and whether there was any UAV at all in Kerch or Belbek.
However, the ISW suggests that Ukrainian forces are likely to continue their campaign of strikes against Russian military facilities in the occupied Crimea in order to aggravate Russia's logistical capabilities and support operations on the western bank of the Dnieper.
Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that explosions were heard near the Kerch Bridge in the occupied Crimea on the evening of August 18. The occupation "authorities" of the peninsula stated that there was "no threat to the bridge," and the Kremlin media noted that a "Ukrainian drone" was shot down near the Crimean Bridge.
Also on the evening of August 18, powerful explosions were heard at the Belbek military airfield in Sevastopol, which were so strong that they could be heard in all districts of the city and in the nearest settlements. The airfield is the largest military airbase on the peninsula, it is located 260 km from the nearest point of the front.
Gauleiter Mikhail Razvozhaev, after a long pause, said that an unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down by air defense means in the Belbek area. He claimed that no one was injured and there were no injuries.
No bias there...
Agreed, and those “Conservatives” you refer to fall right into Russia’s best mode of attack (and has been for a long time): Internal disruption of their perceived enemies.
THAT has proven many times to be a near fatally or fatally flawed approach.
Thanks Paul. I appreciate you bringing that post back to
me. I wanted to reference it, and I forgot to keep track
of it.
Your comments are right on point > IMO.
Heh, I saw you mention going back to it, so, curious, I looked it up & figured a reply would serve 2 purposes. :-)
