A preproduction F-150 Lightning Pro SSV fitted out for police duty
Back in 2016, Ford fitted out a special F-150 truck for serve-and-protect duty as a police service vehicle. Now the company has done something similar with the new all-electric version of the pickup, which has been dubbed the F-150 Lightning Pro SSV.
Ford notes that it has supplied police departments with vehicles for more than 70 years, with its police vehicle lineup actually outselling those supplied by all of its combined competitors.
The latest addition to its lineup, the 2023 F-150 Lightning Pro Special Service Vehicle (or SSV for short), essentially combines the all-electric version of America's best-selling truck with the latest generation of the special-edition combustion-engine Police Responder mentioned in the opener.
Ford says that in standard battery configuration, the electric drivetrain produces 452 hp (337 kW) along with 775 lb.ft (1,050 Nm) of torque, payload capacity of up to 2,235 lb (1,013 kg) is possible and the e-truck is capable of towing 7,700 lb (~3,490 kg). With an extended battery option cooked in, the horsepower gets a bump to 580 and the towing capability to 10,000 lb.

Ford's Co-Pilot360 driver assistance package is included too, which offers such things as auto emergency braking and help with blindspots.

might help if they put “defend the police” logos on them...
My dad stayed in a Holiday Inn.
You are wrong!
“From what I have read I would guess about fifty miles.”
The civilian version has a 320 mile range.
“Easily hackable”
No more so than a regular pickup ...
400+ hp donut getter?
Yeah the range numbers they give are kind of BS anyways. I saw a video recently where someone tested electric vs gas pickups and the gas one way outlasted the electric one. And that is just one issue.
Useless
And even though the range is only 320 miles, in a pursuit the F-150 Lightningâs 4.0 second 0-60 time means it wonât be outrun by most criminals.â

On flat ground . The faster the chase, the less the range.
Next , cars will be required to have less range, I.e. limited battery civilian e.v.’s than L.E.O. e.v.’s.
Till we are all walking,
and L.E.O. will be reduced to running ,
and bad language instead of a service firearm.
.utopia.

BUT, pursuits are not over in 4 seconds unless there's a crash. Pursuits continue at many speeds with halts and starts and many maneuvers. Some last for hours until a spike strip or pit maneuver ends the game. More pursuits get called off because they lose sight of the vehicle in busy areas not by outrunning the police vehicle.
Not just that but cops usually work 12 hour shifts. 6am to 6pm and then 6pm to 6am.
Will it last for the 12 hours?
Will it recharge in 12 hours?
Will they need twice as many vehicles since they can’t be run for two consecutive shifts?
Will they last as many years/miles as ICE engine vehicles?
Taxi cabs are allowed to run 400k miles. I’ve got an F150 with 285k miles on it.
I paid $1500 for my truck, did some repairs, we’ll call it $1k worth, and have been running it for 5 years and it will likely go another 5 years. That’s $250/yr to keep myself in a full size 4x4 truck that runs and drives good and will haul 6-7,000 lbs on a trailer for hundreds of miles. I do all my own repairs on all my vehicles.
This push for EVs is just a way to prevent poor people from being able to drive.

“Tesla has emergency door releases.”
This is a Ford truck. Read the article.
Oh well. People have a right to their own opinions. No one has a right to their own facts.

And in longer pursuits they radio ahead to have other vehicles intercept.

Learn how to tell the truth.
Was that the Ford Lightening towing the ATC pull-behind RV? Got 83 miles before needing a recharge?

I’m willing to bet that the range is actually probably only 100 miles if you mash the throttle to attempt that 4.0 sec 0-60 time
Electric vehicles can not function in Northern States during winter.
The batteries are drained quickly in low temps and in far Northern locations, Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin, both Dakotas, Minnesota temps can get well below zero for weeks during mid winter.
This is a recipe for disaster. Not just for owners of these vehicles.
Ford will want a bail out when sales fall and fail.
