Or maybe she's just trying to create a fan base. Gays are said to be rabid supporters of their favorite divas. They never stop talking about, or promoting, Judy Garland, Bette Midler, etc.

Maybe Carter is cynically trying to tap into that gay energy, hoping they'll loudly promote her, and thus win her some acting roles.
