The Bumper Song for Rush Limbaugh Will Be Retired

It’s official. The final piece of Rush Limbaugh on syndicated radio will be retired soon. Clay Travis and Buck Sexton told their audience Thursday that the rights to Rush’s iconic bumper music “My City was Gone” are set to expire.

Limbaugh popularized the song performed by The Pretenders using it as a bumper song which then became synonymous with his overall brand.

“For decades, Rush’s theme song has reminded everyone about their truth and clarity are on the way,” Travis said. “It’s an iconic song forever that’s going to be attached to Rush Limbaugh and everything that he represented.”

With the one-year anniversary of the “Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show” approaching, the duo spent time reflecting on the show’s inception and the indelible mark that Limbaugh left on millions of Americans.

“And for us, this is really like retiring the jersey in sports,” said Sexton. “Because Rush’s theme song is forever attached to his memory, everything he built, and we deeply honor that, his legacy. And that song is a part of his legacy, of course.”

Clay & Buck’s new theme song is “My Own Worst Enemy.”

“These guys moved to Tennessee from California because they were so frustrated with the direction that California politics had gone (laughing), and they are going to be longtime listeners of this show,” Travis said.

“They loved Rush. And when we had this conversation with them, Buck, I mean you should have seen their faces and how excited they were to be able to bring their music to this audience and connect their brand and their spirit with the spirit and brand of the greatest radio show audience that has ever existed in American history,” he added.

“Rush’s shows are still available on Rush 24x7. Much of what he said is applicable today.”

Even the names haven’t changed, Grahmnesty, the turtle, (or cocaine Mitch), Biden, Pelosi, et al.

For my part, I watch the Dittocam feed and can go back many years. Helps with sanity-maintenance...

When Rush played that song the morning after the 2004 election and said, “Way to go, Ohio”, it was one of his most epic moments.

He played the song in full that day.

That was the syndicator Premiere Networks’ decision to carry on the format. Don’t blame the new guys.

They might as well. There is absolutely no connection to Rush other than the time slot.

I miss him terribly. Talk Radio has basically become just another strident noise.

I remember that Chrissie sued Rush to make him quit using the song. There was a settlement which allowed Rush to use the song after a substantial payout to Chrissie. She later said after the payout that she let him use it because of her dad. She didn’t want to look like a sell out.
That’s was what I remember.

I miss Rush, too! There was only one. No one can replace him.

Clay and Buck don’t offer much different from what many city talk shows have. Rush offered a different take or perspective one rarely heard. If something big happened, I wanted to hear Rush’s perspective. Clay and Buck? It’s background noise but I’ve thought the thoughts before hearing them say them so it isn’t a big deal.

Up until now, it always seemed that they were using the studio until Rush came back, and didn’t want to change too much. Now, We know that it’s their show now.

It’s painfully obvious, isn’t it?

Chrissie’s alright with me. The original Pretenders lineup was fantastic, but unfortunately heroin destroyed it.

Of all the talk radio heads left, Chris Plante is the only one who comes within ten miles of Rush. The rest fall way short.

Saw Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders in concert shortly after she was ‘disinvited’ to be part of the Lillith Fair women’s empowerment tour.

She was awesome, and laid into how full of crap all those stuck up no talent biotches are. I liked the music before that, but in that moment, I fell in love with her. We don’t agree on politics, but she’s smart, independent, and not afraid to speak her mind.

Should use King Crimson “21st Century Schizoid Man”. First Choice Kinks “20th Century Man” The Lyrics are still relevant.

Ms Hynes allowed Rush to use the song because her late Dad loved his show .

She is a class act .

I remember that well. I bet if they were to ask Chrissie if they could still use it she’d say yes but then again she may have been a secret admirer of Rush.......one can never tell. I miss Rush so much!
