Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

I tried out the new Star Trek series: "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds".

It mostly reminded me of the original series. It's pleasantly non-woke. Very good initial pilot. Great acting. No over-the-top special effects. It had the old Star Trek little moral at the end, just like the original series.

There's even a Lt. Kirk. And Cadet Uhura mans the communications.

If they stay non-woke and just tell good stories, they have a new fan.

Oh, and the very best part?

You know how Captain Kirk's catch phrase was "Engage"? And how Captain Picard's catch phrase was "Make it so."? Well.....Captain Pike's catch-phrase is....

HIT IT!

I think they stole it from me....

Apt review. Just watched: A little fast for an intro, but the show has much promise.

Anson Mount is a great actor.

It’s his older brother, George Samuel Kirk.

Actually, in the pilot episode Pike "Hit it" with a fellow captain before he ever stepped on board the bridge.

TNG wasn’t space opera. It was group therapy.

“Make it so” is standard nautical language.

I saw this on Pluto TV. The show was not good at all in my opinion.
The pacing was wrong just like the newer movies. Too busy. The ships engine room is all wrong.
At least it is not a brewery like in another Star Trek movie.

They show windmills for power in the future when they have warp drive, impulse drive and anything else that would be better then a windmill.
Why would they want bird choppers?

The captains hair... it looks like it is from a 1950’s doo wop band.
He also tilts his head a lot. I expect him to do a Elvis impression and say uh huh huh...
The way he walks. He needs to stand up straight and stop slouching.
They kept having him looking at his future self in any reflective surface. I saw in the preview of the next show he was going on about his future. I suspect it will be an endless occurrence.

Later we see a female alien who leads her side on the planet and she too has big hair. She could fit in with the country music look from the 60’s and 70’s.

The bridge females have some odd hair do’s too. One has both sides of her skull shaved. Probably will be revealed she is a lesbian later on.
The nearly all female crew. The alien leaders are female too.

The insult that peaceful protesters on January 6 were one of the reasons for ww3 and not showing the dozens of cities burning and innocent peoples property being destroyed because of the democrat party.

The endless platitudes and clichés the captain kept spouting thru-out the show.

The ship is too colorful, many bright lights. They have lights on every edge. Only missing the lens flares.
The captains room is too big unless he is holding many parties. He has a fireplace, maybe just a hologram.

They brought on a character named Samual Kirk, the brother of James T. Kirk and he has a mustache. The way he walked in on the bridge reminded me of the Galaxy Quest character Guy Fleegman (mustache) who later became the security chief when he walked onto the bridge at the end of the movie.

Host of the Inside the Series show is Wil Wheaton aka Wesley, Wesley Crusher who was wearing a suit with a purple tie and not quite sure but he pinned a symbol of the federation badge or a peace sign and it was in a rainbow of colors......
I guess because Star Trek is now so gay.

I watched it. It’s interesting. Pike is actor Anson Mount who starred in the TV series “Hell on Wheels.”

But as far as woke goes, two things struck me. A marked predominance of female crew members on the bridge and the show’s allusion to the cause of the world war that nearly destroyed humanity - basically, protests about the fraud election of 2020.

The Lt Kirk in the second episode is Sam Kirk - James T’s father?

He most often said, “Kirk out” We used to joke in the dayroom each week about it. Kirk on his communicator and he’d say “Kirk out.” We got to calling him Captain Kirkout. The other thing was him and space chicks. Always seeing him in his quarters with one and both were putting on their clothes afterwards. He was a space hound.... :0)

Agreed—”The Expanse” series were excellent books (James Corey was the author) and key plot elements and characters of the books have been respected in the show.

Some folks here got a little bent out of shape that The Belters were code for “minorities” of our day, but I do not share that view at all.

Their situation is a reasonable extrapolation of how life in the Belts might be and what it would mean long term—and I think that was Corey’s intent.

The “experts” never seem to get it right—and the higher the stakes the greater the danger of their ignorance.
