"Old Red", my '96 F150 has dual tanks. I usually keep one full and fill and switch tanks when one hits 1/2. I just topped off the rear tank today. Cost $50.
At the moment, the forward tank has developed a hole and can't be used.
(I know. Who'd have thought? Rust on a 26 year-old pickup on an island in Alaska?)
New tank on order.
I had a buddy who would fill them up with water and weld repair them. But I think you made the better choice.
My last truck was an F150 from the 90s. Amazing how much I weight I would tow with that thing. So cautious I was with an extreme load, but thankful to have a 350 heavy duty when I need it now.
