When I was little, I remember gas stations on opposite corners having "price wars" all the time. Lowest price for gas that I remember is 27 cents/gal. Today, that price seems like something out of a dream.

Yep. My first car was '55 Chevy. On the way to High School there was a Shell on one corner and an Atlantic Richfield on the other. Gas wars sent prices down under twenty cents and I could fill 'er up from empty for $5.

Oh, the nostalgia. In those days, I would borrow a sawbuck from my Old Man for a date. One dollar in the tank. One dollar for a drive in movie and two bucks for burgers and shakes afterward.

Agreed! What I wouldn't give to be able to go back to those times.

In the early 1990s, one of our local stations had a freak promotional deal for a 2-day period: $.87 per gallon. Seemed like hog heaven to the teenagers @the time. They would have stroked out at paying only $.27/gal.
