I am watching the show...
I have watched some of the movies nominated for Best Picture...BELFAST...DUNE...WEST SIDE STORY...
NO TIME TO DIE song was nominated...I want to see if that Bond song wins Oscars...
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS...Won by Ariana Debose...WEST SIDE STORY...She was fine in the movie...
If it wasn't kayfabe, good for Will Smith! Chris Rock was a little over the top with the comment. Making jokes about people's medical conditions is not cool, far worse than a couple Leftist harpies cracking wise about Conservative's ideas, IMHO.
I have Apple+ for free for a year from T-mobile and this is basically the only thing I’ve tried to watch on there (coda)
I much prefer to read. Loved “The Bonfire of the Vanities.” I haven’t seen the movie. I did read “The Right Stuff” and see the movie. No question as to which was better. Wolfe’s writing style is hard to capture on screen.
The only exception I can think of where the movie was better than the book is “Jaws.” Sorry, Peter Benchley, but the whole affair with Ellen and Hooper and the Mafia subplot were unnecessary to the story. Making the movie simply man vs. shark was the way to go.
Jurassic Park by Chricton is one of my fav books, and the movie was one of by favs too. The Lost World book and movie both sucked.
I haven’t read the Right Stuff but that cast and script for the movie, can’t get much better.
The movie wasn’t bad at all, IMO. But Wolfe has a unique way with dialogue and descriptions that don’t really make it to the screen.
I like Ted Lasso, too.
I got into Foundation. It is a bit of a rewrite of Asimov's novels to allow a "more inclusive" cast, from what I understand, but since I never read the novels and I'm unlikely to, I didn't mind. I think it's a good story.
There's a special episode of Mythic Quest on Apple TV that may be the funniest thing I've ever seen. It's the one where they're all working remotely during the lockdowns. The whole thing is done filmed through Zoom Calls. I'm not sure how much you need to know about the characters. I liked Season 1, but quit watching after that.
All of these come with a language warning, so not for family time with the kids. Foundation not as much as the others.
As I said in my post above, he could have controlled himself at the moment and publicly challenged Rock to a fight. If Rock declined, he would have lost a great amount of respect and Smith would have gained a lot. To hit someone who was out of line and then cry about it a half-hour later is not a good look.
We had Apple for a month because my daughter wanted to binge watch Ted Lasso, which I’ve not seen but a lot of people seem to like. I took advantage of the subscription to see CODA, Greyhound (highly recommended, and just ignore the fact that Tom Hanks is 30 years too old), and On the Rocks, which is a well-done family drama with, well, no spoilers. Pachinko just debuted this past week and is getting great reviews; I might have to do another month if I can find a couple or three other things to watch. So put that free subscription to work while you’ve got it.
Apple+ doesn’t even remember where you left off, just restarts the movie.
They got a big jackpot with this win, but the picture quality is terrible too. I can’t believe if you leave it on web browser it goes back to the start.
Looks fake to gin up ratings.
Lesser known, but brilliant writing... "I Am Charlotte Simmons." It's a great novel that would not translate to screen very well.
I actually read that years ago when I was working overseas. A co-worker and fellow book-geek had the hardback and let me borrow it.
That was in 2004. I want to read it again, so I just ordered it on thriftbooks.com for just under $5. Good condition. (I love me some thriftbooks.)
Thank you for reminding me about that one.
I think it was real...Smith was really angry...
+1 on Foundation. I can’t wait for the next installments.
I remember her from a reality TV show...THE SURREAL LIFE...Ron Jeremy was also on that show...An adult film actor...
That was tonight?
Will Smith won for best improv. 😏
Thanks for the info...I found some interesting books on that website...
I think people will talk more about what Will Smith did than the fact that CODA won the Best Picture...
It was a memorable Oscar show for me for other reasons...A tribute to 60 years of James Bond...Billie Eilish performance of NO TIME TO DIE...
I did see the trailer for THE LOST CITY...Interesting...Sandra Bullock is in the film...I might watch the movie eventually...
