In the last few hours, a photo of a Ukrainian girl sitting on a window with a lollipop in her mouth and a rifle in her hand has gone viral. In her hair she wears a blue and yellow ribbon, colors of the Ukrainian flag. She looks outside, as if she is watching. She was even shared on Twitter by the former president of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
The picture was taken by the girl’s own father, the Kiev photographer Oleksii Kyrychenko and published on their Facebook and Instagram accounts with the title “Young girl with candy”, “girl with a candy”.

That’s worse. Plays right into the threat Ukraine poses to Russia. Think what would happen if that girl was at a school board meeting with that picture floating around? Not smart.
This kind of exploitstion is all wrong. Children should not be used as war props. People on FR have rightly condemned Hamas and Hezbollah using children as combatants. The practice in Africa is wide spread. It is horrendous and disgusting

Kyrychenko said that he took the photo “to draw the world’s attention to Russian aggression against Ukraine”.
Kyrychenko also confirmed that the girl in the photo is her 9-year-old daughter and that it was staged.
According to what he said, the gun is his and it was not loaded.

Someone should take her away from her father then. That's despicable.

It seems the Russians have much more to worry about than a photo of a girl with a shotgun....
My dad took me shooting for the first time around 8 or 9.
Handed me a Ruger .22 and told me to try and hit the pop bottles he’d lined up at the trash dump.

In fact, the photo he shared yesterday is the second of its kind he’s taken. The February 22two days before the Russian invasion, he posted a similar image of his daughter with a rifle in her hand, looking out the window with the hashtag #standwithukraine (support Ukraine).
I agree, but did you read all the hysterical comments?
Obvious from the clean clothes and perfect coif with a ribbon in her hair that this is staged.
What a beautiful child. How very sad is her future.
