Flocking fantastic! Stunning birds from around the world are celebrated in nature photographer's new book - from a species of British duck to a majestic Australian cockatoo

From a flamboyance of flamingos to a crested cockatoo, a photographer showcases some of the world's most brilliant birds in a dazzling new book.

London-based photographer Tim Flack, an honorary fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, travels the world photographing animals and has turned his attention to our feathered friends for his latest title, Birds, published by Abrams Books.

Flack said: 'When I began this project, my intention was to explore the beauty and wonderment of birds by depicting them in a series of portraits, abstract and in flight.

'For many of us, the global pandemic has heightened our awareness of nature and specifically birds, which have with their very presence awakened our senses and elevated our spirits.

'The enforced solitude of lockdown has also given me an opportunity to reflect on my photographic processes and glean new inspiration from the old masters such as Rembrandt and Turner.

'I hope this book will further reveal just how extraordinary they really are, while inspiring empathy and encouraging conservation and support. Connecting people to the natural world has never been more important.'

Here, FEMAIL shares a selection of some of the most spectacular snaps...

If flamingos didn’t exist, only a child’s fantasy drawing could imagine such a creature; a giant bright pink bird with stilt-like legs.

Lovely birds. I love flamingos a lot. Highly endangered. Read about one at a zoo in South America years ago believed to be 100 years old. It’s picture is my icon on another site.

Will become gift for my daughter’s birthday in May. She feeds lots of birds, has for decades. Her hummingbirds fly 5000 miles from Chile back to her yard in North Idaho every year. Same birds, but with children.

In the other yard, regular bird feeders. She caught a big buck deer out there eating the seeds, let the dogs out to bark it away.

They’re my daughter’s favorites, she goes straight to the flamingo exhibit every time she’s at the zoo. It was kinda cool watching the babies hatch earlier last year, then when they are teenagers they are a beautiful pink on top, then white in the middle and grey on the bottom.

The pictures are surreal. I will never see those birds in real life as they look in their pictures.

I other “bird news” a sea eagle was recently spotted up in Maine.

I saw three golden eagles a few weeks ago. That was pretty awesome. There are a lot of Bald Eagles around here as well.
My son recently showed me all about Harpy Eagles
Amazing!
