I don't understand them either. I'd like to know what specific statutes they were charged with violating. I could see something contributing to the death of another person or something like that. Something substantive, like any laws on securing weapons in the home, illegally purchasing a gun as a gift to a minor, whatever...

Criminal negligence resulting in death is a summary of (the applicable) Michigan’s statutory definition of involuntary manslaughter.

Most often applied in DUI cases, where there is a death. Without a death, it (can be) criminal negligence. Same for a sober person racing on the sidewalk in the wee hours - nobody there, but man, that is criminally negligent/reckless.
