I own one of the very first Trek mountain bikes made.

In the Fall of 1982 Trek sent display model mountain bikes to select stores as a promotion for the MB line that would come out in the spring. They were not to be sold to the public.

My campus bike shop recieved one. I went in there on a Sunday and saw it and bought it for the suggested retail price. Paid $378 for it. The student sales person did not know it was not to be sold.

On Monday the bike shop owner called me and said it was not to have been sold and if I returned it he would sell me one for cost when it came out.

I was getting huge attention and fell in love with it from it so I kept it.

It has many handmade features and a pre production serial number.
I posted pics of it on a bicycle collectors forum a few years back and numerous people wanted to buy it for quite a sum of money.

I was told there are only a handful left.

I lost the original sales receipt from multiple moves over the years.

Just have one Cannondale road bike for the last eight years. Ride it on a local bike trail for an average of eight miles per day.

Best investment I ever made!

Ok I’ll post. Thanks.

Mrs. Flying Eagle acquired a beach cruiser from Six-Three-Zero about a year ago and she just loves it. It arrived partially assembled. I summoned all my restraint to get her to open the box, remove frame, wheels, seat and handlebar, etc., and assemble it herself. She did a great job, following the helpful video instructions, and now is able to bike-tune as needed. It is a great bike for her.

She also got a really nice bike-helmet online from Bike Pretty. Their philosophy is you do not have to wear a helmet that looks like you are from Mars or in the Tour de France to be safe and enjoy a nice ride in the neighborhood.
She looks like Martha Stewart cruising around the neighborhood.

Somec SPX-Air, 1987, with a pearlescent clear-coat on red, white, and blue.

Girardi saddle, C-Record, Vittoria Crit-Seta tires. Not shown are the Cinelli "death cleats" I rode for most of its used life (they're Looks in the picture). 54-48 on the rings, with a near-step Regal cog from 12-13-14-15-16-17-19. NO SIS for me.

The bike was pure sex, the bike I'd dreamed of since my early teens. It was a joy on a weekend road bombing up and down the hills of California, or in communter traffic, with a tight rear triangle for climbing and a laid back fork for a rough downhill. It was not an F-40 of a crit bike, but more of a Testarossa.

Note what is hanging from the ends of the Cinelli criterium handlebars.

Streamers in red, white, and blue.

Does anyone else ride at night using might vision?

I take my PVS-14s out through the trials and golf courses. Kool way to cruise.

Will probably incorporate some varmint hunting into my rides this year.

I have a bike; a Schwinn Ladies ‘Cruiser’ type that is going into the bike shop for an overhaul this winter. It has pedal brakes and big fat tires. No gears, no nothing. A real throw-back. I named her ‘Elvira.’

It was my sister’s who upgraded to an e-bike which she really loves.

I live in the ‘Driftless’ area of Wisconsin; the glaciers never hit us to smooth us out, so it is nothing but hills. BIG hills. A lot of serious bike racers train out here.

We joke that after you’ve lived here for a while, one leg is shorter than the other from walking on an angle all the time and even when you’re walking DOWNHILL, it’s still UPHILL!

Please add me to the Bike Ping. I have a few bikes that I enjoy riding but mostly ride my 26”, single speed, Big BMX bikes. Ultra simple. Ultra reliable. 1 is a Framed 26er and 1 an Eastern Growler. Both equipped with rear discs. Yep, simple.

Thanks for sharing about your great bike.
I was riding through the woods on my hybrid and rolled over a tree stump I saw at the last moment.
Good thing I had my front shocks unlocked.

C-Record.

Sweet.

I've got a pair of Campy-branded Look-style pedals that would round out the ensemble.

I still have the death cleat pedals. When I hang it on the wall in this house, it'll have them. They do build a kind of attachment...

There was nothing like Cinelli M-71 clipless pedals for positive engagement. They were made for track racing. It was a dovetail slide that had a pin that locked in the "death cleats." They did NOT let go at all unless one reached down and slapped the latch to pop them loose. But the best part was that they kept knee alignment perfect (why I still have knees with the big gears I rode on hills). They did make for a few inelegant mishaps doing a track stand at a stoplights in LA. The cool thing about them was that I could pull on them as hard as I wanted when climbing. Together with the cleats on Duegi 101 wood-bottomed shoes, it was very comfortable power.

Climbing up Beverly Bl to Mulholland Dr. in West Los Angeles. It's the only decent photo I have of me on the bike. In the summer of 1987 I was 32. I loved riding that thing but it was starting to give me thoracic spine problems from all the shock of fast descents on crappy streets. I'll bet they're worse now too.

If that were me I'd hang it on the wall.
