Yes they do. They are also loathe to question authority. It was explained to me by a close relative who has lived in Germany for forty years. He said the Germans have a "subconscious collective guilt" from starting two world wars. It garnered no sympathy from me but he wasn't expecting it to, nor was he sympathetic.
