One confounding factor is that the vaccines are less effective at preventing Covid infection and spread than hoped
Here is the snag. For whatever reason, it is unclear that vaccination can count as 'immunity'. Add to that the fact that officially natural immunity is being discounted.
Officially 'herd immunity' has become a non-factor - thus universal vaccination with eternal boosters. How will the autocracy accomplish this?

I agree completely. The best defense for any disease is simply maintaining general good health to foster a robust natural immune system.
There is a nasty bug going around that is particularly dangerous to those whose health is marginal or poor. This is especially true for the unfortunates exposed to high population density conditions*.
PR and I think we got it during our last visit to the Big City. Anchorage in December 2019. Locals said the "Mother of all flu bugs" was going around.
A few months later we heard speculation from Anchorage health care workers that their "Mother of all flu bugs" had been COVID19.
Whether or not we actually had C19 rather than just a garden variety flu is just conjecture on my part until we get tested for antibodies. Having said that, I am one of those lucky souls who pretty much never gets sick When some seasonal bug hits me I shrug it off in a day or three, if not in an afternoon. I had not been sick since the 1980's but I got sick in December '19. It lasted about three weeks. I wasn't bed ridden but I was uncomfortable with badly congested lungs for about ten days.
I do not intend to seek a test unless I can get it without leaving the island. Circling back to high density situations. i.e. Crowds. IMO, (*Beating that drum again) Population density.

My experience wasn’t quite as bad, but still left me with a strong memory.
I had to walk home in a blizzard once. I was 5 years old. Trying to walk down the street and the wind was so strong I kept getting blown into the front yards of the houses along the street. Couldn’t tell where the street ended and the yard started because the snow was so deep. Walking with my head down against the wind and I would look up every so often and realize I was in the middle of someone’s yard instead of in the street. I really worried the whole way that I was not going to make it. Survival instinct is strong! Or maybe in my case just stubbornness.

And just in case people are freaking about Del Rio, I notice “regular” media ie Fake News are not telling this at all. They want us terrified, defeatist and hiding in holes.
US to Expel Illegal Immigrants Gathering Under Texas Bridge
Illegal immigrants who have gathered in a Texas bridge area will be expelled, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Saturday.
The DHS made the announcement after various reports said that thousands of illegal immigrants are amassing under an international bridge in Del Rio, Texas.
Some 9,000 illegal immigrants, including Haitians, Cubans, and Venezuelans, were in the area, Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez said on Thursday. However, the number has increased to 14,000, a Border Patrol source told The Epoch Times.
The immigration authorities have temporarily closed the Del Rio Port of Entry and rerouted traffic from Del Rio to Eagle Pass, which is about 60 miles away.
The illegal immigrants are being relocated to other processing locations to accelerate the deportation process.
“DHS is conducting regular expulsion and removal flights to Haiti, Mexico, Ecuador, and Northern Triangle countries,” the agency said in a statement.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said that he has directed the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas National Guard to “maintain their presence at and around ports of entry to deter crossings.”
“The Biden Administration is in complete disarray and is handling the border crisis as badly as the evacuation from Afghanistan,” Abbott said in a statement on Sept. 16.
Most of the illegal immigrants will be expelled under the CDC’s Title 42 authority, and others who are in the United States illegally and can’t be expelled under Title 42 will be placed in expedited removal proceedings, the DHS said.

A couple of you have expressed liking for my flyer project and have offered help.
On Tuesday, I described an idea that popped into my head regarding making a flyer to hand out at college campuses (or wherever) that uses reverse psychology to expose ‘rona myths.
It so happens that on Monday night’s Medic Monday this past Monday, Dave and Greg discussed dropping memes and informational flyers all over, such as stuffing them into newspapers at the stand in the grocery store. They felt that pamphleteering needs to come back into style.
Now, mind you, I did not listen to this episode of Medic Monday until Wednesday.
Anyhoo, my vision for this flyer is that it would start off with at the top something like:
“Help stop fake news and misinformation about Covid-19 and the vaccines. Here are some myths your conservative friends and family believe and how to dispel them.”
This would be followed by Myth-Fact sets. Perhaps we could have 16 enumerated ones and one bonus unenumerated one at the bottom of the 2nd page of a doubled-sided 8 by 11 flyer.
Each of the facts would have a citation that is NOT a right-wing publication; rather, the citations would be the CDC, World in Data, The Atlantic, etc.
Here are some examples:
- Myth #1: Doctors have been charged with mass murder for lying about Covid.
Fact: Only one doctor has been indicted for mass murder.
(I know I saw an article in The Herald or someplace like that about that female health director in India who has been charged with a crime against humanity for keeping a lid on the effectiveness of Ivermectin.)
- Myth #2: Ivermectin is being used all over the world in treating Covid.
Fact: Only 45 nations are using Ivermectin. (I don’t know the exact number of nations using Ivermectin. I am hoping some middle of the road publication has something on this.)
- Myth #3: Everyone who died of Covid had been old.
Fact: Only 78% of the people who have died of Covid-19 in the United States are over 65. (https://www.statista.com/statistics/1191568/reported-deaths-from-covid-by-age-us/)
We could use all sorts of help on this project beyond help in coming up with the 16 sets— from proofreading for dumb dumb errors (wrong form of “there”), editing suggestions for better phrasing, help in locating good citations, help in giving your opinion on what sets should definitely be included versus which ones can be sacrificed if we get more than we can fit, help in suggestions of the order, etc.
It would be great if someone could put them all on a Word doc or something and make a pdf of it that could be easily copy and pasted and make to fit a standard piece of paper that a standard printer can handle.
The ultimate typesetting and look of the flyer doesn’t have to be fancy. It just has to look decent.
So, if you are interested, please start by proposing sets or perhaps providing a better source for a set someone came up with or otherwise improving on their idea.
