China announced Monday that children will only be allowed to play video games for 1 hour on Fridays, weekends, and holidays.
Gaming platforms can only offer online gaming to minors between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on those days, according to the National Press and Publication Administration (NAAP). The new restrictions limit a previous rule that allowed children to play video games for 1.5 hours per day.

A majority of parents expressed their concern over minors' indulging in online gaming, which led to the previous restriction enacted in 2019, the state-run news agency Xinhua reported.
"Recently, many parents have reported that some teenagers' indulging in online games have seriously affected their normal study life and physical and mental health, and even caused a series of social problems," Xinhua stated in a Monday press release.
Along with the time slots, China will implement a real-name verification system where users will present their identification. Regulation of the new measures will also go into effect.
The NAAP urged families, schools, and social sectors to assume the responsibility of guardianship and provide environments conducive to "the healthy growth of minors."

Apparently a bunch or FReepers think this is just dandy.
Tyranny is okay when you like the outcome I guess.
China is shutting down outside communications and that is a big worry. What are they planning? Whipping the folks into shape before...
I would make a really lousy communist.
Some of the comments on that other thread are shocking.
But if ya go carryin pictures of chairman mao...
shooby-doo-wah...
Well, we may not like the way China is playing ‘tough-dad’ to their people, but all one has to do is look at DC to see what happens when parents allow ‘anything to go’.
Wow!
In my opinion, marijuana and video games share a common value: Reducing competition in the workplace. Both are to be avoided by anyone hoping to get ahead.

I have never developed a part of my brain that likes or understands gaming, but it is crazy how much younger folks like it. I ran across a YouTube vid yesterday discussing gamers building a house—in the game of course—and it had received over 10 million views within 16 hours. Incredible!

Our people are often just as big a bunch of nannies and posers as the left. They want to tell people what to read, what to listen to, what activities are approved, etc...And when the fanatics, busybodies, Karen’s, and do-gooders of the right meet up with their leftist counterparts, we all lose.
Fine.
They’ll just start defining a single hour as the time between dawn and dusk,
Yes. We're supposed to believe that a majority of Chinese parents basically said: "Please limit our children's video game playing under the threat of arresting us (parents) if we (parents) don't enforce your draconian will. We understand that it's for our own good that you take these benign measures!"
I’ll have to send my son there…

Yes, pretty much, at least if they’re like American parents. I gave my kids ‘dumb phones’ until they were 18 and made sure that I could see any use of computers (they were in the living room). Did my kids have ‘workarounds’ - of course, since they had friends, but the other 80% to 90% of their non-school hours were with us.
So how many other parents, even here, are willing to do that? Yet they all know that it is the right thing to do, as video games and social media is DESTRUCTIVE, but how many parents can say NO to a nagging kid...be honest (mine couldn’t when I was growing up).
‘We understand that it’s for our own good that you take these benign measures!”
I don’t think that is all that far-fetched; last year, during a slight virus uptick, a sizeable gaggle of females took to twitter and begged our esteemed governor (Wolf) to shut us down...

Maybe a 200 million man march to Megiddo?
