Can someone explain that? I don't get his point. He took one for "the team"? Who comprises "the team"? Fellow leftists? How would his taking the shot help "the team"?

I've never understood what is meant by that expression - unless one is actually a member of a team.

I suppose that "the team" sounds more-folksy and friendlier than "the Collective."
