I could get my vw bug popped all by myself, hill or no hill!
And when the engine blew up I got a new one for $250!

Same, VW bug battery went bad and had to wait two weeks for my next paycheck before I had the money to buy a new one.

Engine needed repairs after 110,000 miles and got an estimate of $450 for repairs. Instead of repairing just bought a rebuilt one from Sears for about $300 and installed it myself, took me about 1-1/2 hours.

OK I’ll join this slide, had 2 bugs for my first 2 cars, a 51 and a 63. Had to pop the clutch many times on both. Never swapped an engine but there are only 4 bolts holding it in as I recall. Helped rebuild an engine and could do most repairs myself. Had a manual and no money to pay anyone. Those were the days!
