Unfortunately, it is an all too accurate assessment of today's Navy in general and Surface Warfare Community in particular.

Even more unfortunately, these are not problems that can be fixed overnight. A high-speed peacetime fix would likely take 6-8 years. A wartime fix would likely take a year or two in a war that lasts days or weeks.

It is sad to think that I might be a better Officer of the Deck forty years on than some of today's SWOs is both sad and frightening.

Concur - I was a JO in the early 90s and I started seeing a lot of the changes coming. Lot of the stuff mentioned were part of why I left active duty after my commitment was up.

Didn’t help that the opportunities for ships were cut dramatically.

Oh for the days of our 600 ship Navy...

I’m just ashamed that many of my classmates were the senior officers that allowed it to happen and get worse.
