Not really. It marked the day Texas freed the slaves. It was never recognized as a national holiday until now

I refuse to use the racist term “Junexxxx.” Not only does it represent the overall illiteracy of blacks at the time, it also reopens old wounds that by now should be closed forever.

I am tying to come up with another name - “Republican Freedom Day” has a nice ring to it. “Whitey freed da slaves” might not be taken correctly.

I was born on the very day that Roseburgs were executed. Sixty-eight years later America declared the same date as a recognition of they day the Republicans freed the Democrats’ slaves. Born under a lucky star, I guess.
